Control of wasps
In the case of very large wasp colonies, and if it is a question of the large hornet, one should exercise great caution and possibly entrust the control to a professional pest controller.
It is best to carry out the treatment in the evening. Then all the animals are at home, and the camp is fairly quiet. The goats are not so aggressive in the dark (this does not apply to the large goats) and at the low evening temperatures.
A free-hanging nest can be neutralized by spraying it, from below and directly up the entrance hole, with an insect spray designed to combat flying insects. It paralyzes the goats very quickly, after approx. 5 minutes repeat treatment, just to be safe. The estate can after approx. 15 minutes may be removed.
If the estate is hidden, e.g. under eaves, in the wall or in the ground, it will be most effective to powder the place where the hornets fly in and out. The goats will then transport the poisonous powder into the nest. This treatment usually has to be repeated several evenings in a row. If the nest is connected to a ventilation duct for a hood, care must be taken that the insect powder used does not spread to the kitchen.
Never try to close the entrance to the nest, as the animals will then simply find other entrances and exits, and this can typically be through the living rooms, if the nest, for example, sitting in a hollow wall, under the roof or in a ventilation duct.
Wasp traps can be hung up in places where you are bothered by the hornets. It will lure them into the trap where they drown. Traps specially made for this purpose.
