A. Tick / Tick = T/F ) Push the forceps under T/F so that T/F is located in the V notch. Then pull the T/F out of the skin with a slight rotating motion.
B. Tick / Tick = T/F ) Open the tweezers, grasp the crawling, or not filled T/F , as close to the skin as possible.
A tick is a small blood-sucking mite. It is often mistakenly called a tick, but there is reason to distinguish, as a tick is an insect that does not harm humans. You can tell the difference between the two by counting their legs. A tick looks like a beetle and has six legs, while a tick has eight and looks more like a small spider. The tick lives by sucking blood from larger animals such as deer and foxes, but it can also attach itself to humans.
The wood tick sits at the top of tall grass and the like, waiting for a potential host to pass by. If you get a tick on you, it will typically migrate to a warm, moist and dark place on your body (crotch or armpits), but it can settle anywhere.
When the tick has found a suitable place on your body, it bites down and begins to suck blood. You usually do not feel a bite, just as it is usually not bothersome or noticeable that the tick hangs on. You typically only discover the tick when you spot it. After a few days, when the tick has had enough blood, it falls off on its own. In most cases it is not dangerous, but some ticks are carriers of a small bacterium, Borrelia burgdoferi, which can be transmitted to people via the tick's bite, who thereby risk developing the disease Lyme disease. Certain ticks can also be carriers of a virus.
